Welcome to the North
Our vision is for the Northern Territory to become a global leader in integrating uncrewed autonomous systems into remote airspace and applying long-range operations to the commercial and defence sectors.
The North Australia Centre for Autonomous Systems (NACAS) is a research centre at Charles Darwin University conducting integrated industry-focused research and training into the applications of emerging aviation technologies and AI across industries, businesses, communities, and other sectors in northern Australia.
What we do
We provide a dedicated research and training environment to support the people, of the Northern Territory, driving skill development, business innovation, and career opportunity in the drone industry.
We act as a bridge between the drone industry in northern Australia and the rest of the country, facilitating collaboration and driving innovation nationwide.
Why work with us?
Based in the Northern Territory, we bring unmatched expertise in operating drones over long distances in Australia’s most challenging and remote environments. Our diverse team understands what it takes to live and work in the Northern Territory, combining local knowledge with a deep understanding of Australia’s aviation regulatory framework, extensive experience in engineering and piloting UAVs, and a strong foundation in applied research and effective training.
Our team and partners are embarking on a mission to facilitate and support workforce transformation in applying Autonomous Systems to industries and businesses significant to northern Australia.
Foreword from the Director
Welcome to the North Australia Centre for Autonomous Systems.
Our dedicated team of scientists, engineers, data analysts, and aviation specialists is on a mission to integrate emerging aviation technologies into industries, businesses, and sectors vital to North Australia.
Uncrewed autonomous systems can assist us in better managing the land and urban environment, managing risk, and staying safe. In the labour-short, remote environment of the Northern Territory, these technologies, if successfully integrated, can improve efficiencies and reduce costs.
We aim to fortify the connections between research innovation and industry needs, ultimately delivering transformative capabilities that will redefine workforce practices and business operations.
Thank you for joining us on this exciting journey.
