The NACAS Advanced Manufacturing (AM) Lab offers professional services and research collaboration opportunities in 3D printing with advanced composites. The AM Lab is your go-to facility for “Batch of One” manufacturing in the Northern Territory. The NACAS AM LAb offers five cutting-edge manufacturing solutions to deliver precision results across a wide range of materials.

  • Automated robotic application of pre-impregnated carbon fibre composites onto complex surfaces. This process creates lightweight, high-strength components with precision.

  • UV light cures photopolymer resin to produce highly detailed components in materials such as PLA, polypropylene, silicone, and alumina ceramic. SLA enables high-resolution batch production with exceptional detail.

  • Thermoplastics are melted and extruded, layer by layer, to build components. This widely recognised 3D printing method works with most thermoplastics.

  • An evolution of FFF, this method reinforces components with carbon fibre, Kevlar, or fibreglass. The result is lightweight, complex structures with impact resistance and aluminium-like strength at a fraction of the weight.

  • The fusion of powdered material, layer by layer, creates strong, detailed components ready for immediate use. Unfused powder supports production, enabling complex designs and batch manufacturing that surpass CNC milling capabilities.
